The Bridal Dance

How befitting that after I have been to two amazing, life changing weddings (not just for the couple but for me as well).  I am now embarking on a series of one acts by Israel Horowitz at the Firehouse Theatre May 14,15, and 16th here in Richmond, VA. Mr.Horowitz himself will grace us fellow actors with his presence on one of those nights! It is my final farewell series of performances before I embark on what will be one of my biggest journies in my life...no not getting married; but relocating to pursue even more opportunity with acting, moving to LA.

The very apri po one act, that I have the priviledge of playing the character Roz, is titled The Bridal Dance.  Once again, I am not the bride but a guest.  A single guest who decided that taking a date is better than going alone.  Unfortunately my character has not realized the essential freedom one must have when going stag to a wedding.  So many great things can come of it! And here are my top five reasons:

1.  You could meet someone better than your current date
2.  No awkwardness when love is in the air and you are not! Esp during those slow dances....or catching the
     bouquet
3. You catch the bouquet! And then get a garter put on you....fingers crossed... by a sexy single groomsman!
4. Hit the bar as much as you want without anyone thinking your a lush...... everyone understands....your best friend just got married. And most likely, all the singles are at the bar anyways especially during the slow dances.
5. Finally, you and all your "new" single friends hit the town for the AFTER party in your hot outfits.  You dont have to ask permission or go home early or remain flirting with any lame wedding attendees!

ole ole oleannna.......maybe not

Well too bad when you have your heart set on something it can be opened up for being broken, if you don't end up getting what said heart wants.  And thus was my latest audition.  Round two of callbacks.  Really connected with the script more so than I wanted to be (ask if you want :) and I walked out saying that quintessential phrase actors tend to say, "I nailed it."  If only I could bully fate up against the wall, grab him by his collar, and say, "Hey buddy you feeling lucky?? Uh? Cuz I am."  I say that well cause fate won.  So much of this business really is not based on luck but by pure illogical who knows what they're thinking wild hair up their asses decision making bastards.  Okay maybe not bastards. And I know a few nice casting directors out there.  And really in the end it is about  me needing to accept the "vision" of what the artistic director, casting director, so and so's grandma really wants to see out of the show.  And for me at this time (gulp) I wasn't the choice.....for Carol in Oleanna. One part ...one drop in the pond.

It's funny how rejection, opportunities not working out, can often lead us to either realizing what we really want or leading us to do what we are supposed to be doing all along. Or both.  Not landing that role made me realize I am done done done done done done..... with mom and pop, dog and pony, grab ass theatre.  Did I just say grab ass? Because this theatre company was just really great. Inspired me. And even if I have to wwwwwwwwait it out, turn another corner (instead of working one), hand my headshot over to someone who might not really ever look at it, at least I know now that I want and I will get real theatre.  I am done with sing song follow the leader harmonize with bad bass players bull..... excuse me. Almost forgot you were there. Maybe listening as I bellow out my sorrows of change.  But wait! Let me continue my rant of how I found something good in my latest adventure of actorama!

Ready ...cause here it is!

I deserve better than what I have been getting/giving.  I also deserve what I really want.  And what I really want is good.  And it will happen. Maybe not right at this moment.  But it will happen.  IT being what I really want from life, theatre, love, and of course my cat.

Ah. done. ok now you go back to what you were doing before.

Is anyone reading this thing?

Audition with John Forte while being caught up in Europa

Audition next week for Coastal Films with John Forte.  Really want to work with this dude!  I remember auditioning for him before and it turned into me doing some on the spot stand up talking about growing up in a Catholic household with my mom saying, "Once a Catholic, always a Catholic."  So should be encouraging to make an appearance esp since I got this audition through Jay Gates texting me.  Love that.  Go technology.  Can I get a text from Spielberg that says, "Yo, Anna, need you to screen test with Leo Cap. U b around?"  Why yes Spielberg I will.

My cat is lying on the floor. What's the most stressful thing in a cat's life?  Not getting food at 5:30 am?  Perhaps. I wonder if my cat realizes he is slowly going to get fatter and fatter in my new (small) one bedroom apartment.  I say this because this place has no stairs only an entertainment center for him to climb up and dig through the fake decorative bush.  Some days I feel like all I do is climb the entertainment center hoping to get to the top.  Then I could overlook the entire world just like my cat does (overlooks the entire small apartment) and say, "I've made it! I can conquer the world!"  I wonder if and when that happens I will have the same reaction my cat does: fall asleep.  Picture attached.

So I got hired at Europa in Richmond.  Italian tapas place.  Should be an interesting endeavor.  The manager is just now getting around to hiring some girls. Being a veteran waitress, this is a good thing because I would rather be the minority than the majority.  Girls are petty and girls fight.  Yes I might be sexist for saying that but still guys are laid back usually in the restaurant world.  You have to be or else the waiting tables game will be very stressful.....like not getting food at 5:30 am!

Lifetime Movie to be shot in Richmond!? Wha?

So my agent is sending me sides soon for this Lifetime movie to be shot in Richmond.  EXCITED!  Just auditioned for another movie to be shot in Richmond and now this! God is just really great.  Fincannon and Associates Casting is doing the casting for this film. As Mark Paladini would say, "Collect your no's"  Been really grateful to collect anything this month! On top of that Jay Gates texted me yesterday asking me to audition for a Coastal shoot with John Forte.  Hoping something bites!

I love how I am sitting in starbucks (free WIFI now!) in KC while my parents are waiting for power to be turned back on in their house after the crazy lightening storm last night and waiting for Mr. B to get in from his delayed flight out of detroit! BOO!  So much is happening and I love it.  I love the possibility of what can and will come with my recent move to Richmond! :))
